Chapter 964

Evelyn Sinclair's expression froze momentarily when she spotted Cassandra Blake.

Cassandra was visibly shocked by Evelyn's unexpected appearance. The invitation wasn't for her—so why is she here?

Evelyn's gaze shifted to the elderly gentleman standing beside Cassandra. This event was his doing—a man who had once wielded considerable influence but had faded into the background over the years.

Still, his wealth and connections far surpassed those of ordinary people.

The business world hadn't forgotten him entirely. Many familiar faces from the old guard had gathered tonight.

Evelyn smiled. The old man had known her since childhood.

He stepped forward. "Ms. Sinclair, welcome! Or should I call you President Evelyn now?"

Evelyn arched a brow. "Uncle, are you really welcoming me? I thought I'd somehow offended you."

The old man frowned. "Why would you say that?"

Evelyn's eyes flicked toward Cassandra, whose posture stiffened instantly.

"You only sent an invitation to my brother and conveniently forgot about me—even though I was your favorite as a child."

The old man chuckled, shaking his head. "How could I forget you?" Then he paused, realization dawning as he glanced at Cassandra. His expression darkened slightly.

Cassandra forced a smile. "My apologies. My assistant must have overlooked your name on the guest list. A careless mistake."

The old man's voice turned stern. "Fire that assistant."

Evelyn waved a hand dismissively. "No need. I wouldn't want anyone thinking I came here to stir trouble. My brother just asked me to socialize."

The old man pointed at her, amused. "Still sharp as ever, just like your father. A little fox, through and through."

Laughing, Evelyn turned to introduce her companion. "This is Harrison Blake—the famous actor."

The old man barely reacted. In high society, actors were little more than entertainers. "Enjoy the party. Sebastian is inside."

Evelyn nodded, though her real interest lay in Cassandra's sudden closeness to the old man. Answers will come soon enough.

She guided Harrison further into the ballroom, where she immediately spotted Richard Crest, CEO of Pacific Crest Enterprises. His daughter, Hailey, stood beside him, looking bored.

Hailey's eyes lit up when she saw Evelyn. She strode over without hesitation.

"Ms. Sinclair, long time no see."

The teenager mimicked adult formalities perfectly, holding a glass of champagne with practiced ease. Her designer gown gave her the air of a polished socialite—though she clearly had no interest in the other guests.

Richard hurried after her, alarmed. "Ms. Sinclair, this is my daughter, Hailey. She's at that rebellious age—forgive her manners."

Evelyn only smiled. "No forgiveness needed. I attended her birthday party last month. Hailey, did you like my gift?"

The girl grinned. "Loved it. Especially the engraving inside—such a personal touch."

Evelyn had specifically requested that detail from the designer.
