Chapter 465
Evelyn gasped when Alexander appeared out of nowhere.
For reasons she couldn’t explain, a strange sense of relief washed over her.
Sebastian’s expression darkened. His heartfelt confession and proposal had been rudely interrupted. The usual warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by irritation. "Alexander, what are you doing here? You have no business in this company anymore."
Alexander’s sharp gaze flicked to Sebastian before settling on Evelyn’s face.
When their eyes met, his hardened stare softened.
"I know you despise me. I know you wish I were dead. I’ve endured every punishment you’ve thrown at me—but I won’t stand by and watch you marry him."
His voice left no room for argument. The dominance in his tone was unmistakable.
Evelyn opened her mouth to respond, but Sebastian’s mocking laughter cut her off.
"You won’t allow it?" he sneered. "Who do you think you are? Have you forgotten how you treated Evelyn? Where were you when she was sick and bleeding? Off enjoying yourself with another woman. When she was alone, desperate for even a shred of your trust—what did you do? You told her to die."
Sebastian stepped closer, his smirk widening. "Alexander, ask yourself—what right do you have to interfere in Evelyn’s life? She’s not tied to you anymore. And frankly, you don’t deserve her."
Alexander’s jaw clenched. His eyes darkened with shame, and he couldn’t bring himself to look at Evelyn.
Sebastian smirked at his defeated posture.
He draped an arm around Evelyn’s shoulders. "Vivian, let’s go."
Evelyn nodded, her cold gaze sweeping over Alexander’s profile.
His lips were pressed tightly together, his handsome face etched with a bitterness she’d never seen before.
She didn’t dwell on his thoughts. Without hesitation, she walked away with Sebastian.
Alexander remained frozen in place, his expression hollow.
When he finally left Blackwood Enterprises, he drove aimlessly, the city blurring past him. Eventually, he stopped at Pinecrest Heights, staring at the endless ocean.
Memories of his cruelty toward Evelyn flooded his mind.
Her desperate pleas. The way she had loved him from afar, too broken to reach for him. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t escape them.
A cold wind whipped around him. His eyes burned red as he swallowed back a silent sob.
Snow settled on his shoulders, the chill seeping into his bones.
He stood motionless, the waves crashing against the shore like the pain crashing against his heart.
He didn’t know how long he stayed there.
Only the urgent call from Margaret Blackwood pulled him away.
At first, he ignored it—until she mentioned Evelyn.
He sped back to Blackwood Estate.
The moment he stepped inside, Margaret rushed toward him, frantic. "Alexander, has that woman lost her mind? First, she and Sebastian take over Blackwood Enterprises—now she wants this house too? That shameless—"
"Enough," Alexander snapped, his icy tone silencing her instantly.
Margaret pursed her lips. "Did I say anything untrue? If she can do it, why can’t I say it? Hmph, what did we ever do to her? She got what she deserved back then. Why is she back for revenge now?"
Alexander’s gaze turned glacial. "You dare say that?"
Margaret fell silent.
