Chapter 950
Evelyn watched Isabella walk ahead, her steps unsteady as she entered the elevator. Her legs trembled slightly, betraying her nerves.
A pang of sympathy struck Evelyn.
Given Mrs. Montgomery’s temper, she might actually beat Isabella senseless.
Isabella paused at the door, inhaling deeply before pushing it open.
"Mom—"
Mrs. Montgomery ruled the Montgomery family with an iron grip. A formidable woman, she had raised Isabella alone, earning both respect and fear for her unyielding nature.
Her temper was legendary.
Before Evelyn could step inside, a handful of photos were flung at Isabella’s feet.
"Look at what you’ve done!"
Isabella picked them up, her face draining of color. She hadn’t told her mother yet—but someone had beaten her to it. The photos showed Donovan Pierce and her together, along with the incident where Victoria Pierce had publicly humiliated her.
Evelyn caught a glimpse as she entered.
"Hello, Aunt Montgomery."
The fury in Mrs. Montgomery’s eyes softened slightly at the sight of Evelyn.
"Evelyn, it’s been too long."
Isabella steadied herself. One mistake had spiraled into disaster, but she was ready to face the consequences.
"Mom, I came to explain, but it seems someone already did. It’s over between us. I didn’t know he was married—I would never stoop that low. There are plenty of decent men around me. I wouldn’t throw away my principles for Donovan."
Her defiance surprised Mrs. Montgomery.
But knowing Isabella’s pride, it made sense.
"Are you truly done with him?"
Her goal was clear—to force Isabella to cut ties.
"Yes."
Mrs. Montgomery glanced at Evelyn. "Is she telling the truth?"
Evelyn nodded. "Isabella came to the office to terminate all business between the Montgomerys and Donovan. You know she wouldn’t tolerate a man without morals."
A heavy silence followed before Mrs. Montgomery sighed.
"I’ve already ended the partnership. Make sure it stays that way. No more contact. This mess happened because you were reckless!"
Isabella lowered her head, but relief flickered in her eyes.
Her explanation had worked.
"However, we can’t ignore this scandal. If word spreads, it’ll ruin you. Lawrence Wellington from Wellington Group has invited you for tea in a few days. You will meet him. Unless he makes an unforgivable mistake, you are not breaking this off!"
The warning was sharp.
Isabella’s head snapped up. "Mom—!"
"Don’t 'Mom' me. You waste your days frivolously. You refuse to take over the company—fine. Then marry someone who can. Announcing this engagement is the only way to salvage your reputation!"
Evelyn listened quietly. Lawrence Wellington was the CEO of Wellington Group. Though older than Isabella, he was still unmarried.
When Evelyn had dealt with Ashford Group, Lawrence had played a key role—profiting greatly from the takeover.
Ambitious. Ruthless.
Mrs. Montgomery wasn’t giving Isabella a choice.
Evelyn left soon after, heading straight to Sterling Enterprises.
Last time, she’d helped Isabella escape Gregory Thornton.
But Lawrence Wellington?
That was a battle Isabella would have to fight alone.
Back in her office, a knock interrupted her thoughts.
"President Sinclair," Bennett said, stepping in. "Ms. Amelia Sinclair is here to see you."
