Chapter 110
Dominic's fingers tightened around the steering wheel. A cigarette dangled between them, its smoke curling into the air. He didn’t flick the ash—instead, he waved his son over with that same hand.
Alexander trudged toward the car, oblivious.
Dominic studied him with an unreadable expression. "Do you really think she’d become your mother just because you asked?"
The boy scratched his head, confused. Then realization hit. His lips puckered into a pout. "Oh. She doesn’t want us."
Dominic exhaled smoke, watching the horizon. His jaw tightened.
Now that his son wasn’t blocking the driveway, the sleek Range Rover pulled away.
Alexander slumped onto the living room sofa, kicking off his tiny slippers with a sigh.
Julian emerged from his hiding spot, eyebrows raised. "What’s with the long face?"
"Aunt Evelyn doesn’t want to be our mommy." The words came out like a deflated balloon. His whole body sagged, as if he’d just been told Christmas was canceled.
Julian processed this like an adult. Translation: Evelyn was still furious with Dominic. Cold war still ongoing, then.
If a child’s desperate stunt hadn’t fixed things, Dominic was clearly messing up. How hard is it to apologize to your woman?
"Stop moping. Blame your father—he’s emotionally stunted."
Julian had planned to spend the day lounging, but now? Mission: Fix His Brother’s Love Life.
Alexander’s eyes lit up with hope.
Julian suddenly felt the weight of responsibility.
"Do you know where Evelyn lives?" He’d drop the kid at her doorstep. She wouldn’t turn away a heartbroken child.
"She moved. I don’t know the new place."
"Fine. I’ll find out. You’re on your own—your dad’s useless." Julian pulled out his phone.
Alexander scratched his neck. "Aunt Evelyn’s on a blind date."
Julian froze mid-dial. "What? Who told you that?"
"Daddy did..."
A car engine rumbled outside. Both turned.
A black Bentley SUV parked in front of the manor. Out stepped Sebastian, polished in a tailored suit.
He nodded at Julian before addressing Alexander. "Young Master, where would you like to go today? Name it, and I’ll take you."
Julian gave his nephew a meaningful look.
"Um... I want..." Alexander hesitated, then caught on. "I want to see Aunt Evelyn."
Sebastian stiffened.
Dominic’s orders had been clear: Take the kids wherever they want—except to Evelyn.
But the boss rarely indulged his children. And Evelyn was the only woman who’d ever held his interest. Surely bending the rules wouldn’t hurt...
"Of course," Sebastian said carefully. "But do you have a meeting spot?"
Alexander shook his head, eyes pleading.
Julian pulled Sebastian aside. "You know my brother—emotionally constipated. He and Evelyn are in a standoff, and he won’t budge."
Sebastian’s eyebrows shot up. The boss is in a cold war?
And Julian kept calling her Evelyn. That meant Dominic had introduced her to the family. They must really like her.
As a loyal subordinate, Sebastian knew his duty.
"I’ll handle it." He turned to Alexander. "Let’s go find Aunt Evelyn."
"But I don’t know where she is." The boy bit his lip. "She’s on a blind date..."
Sebastian nearly choked. She’s dating while fighting with the boss?
He dialed Abigail.
"Evelyn from your department—where is she right now?"
"She’s off today. Why?"
"Find her exact location. Call me back." He hung up.
Meanwhile, at a steakhouse...
Harrison Wells had just settled into his seat, menu in hand, when Evelyn’s phone rang.
"Mind if I take this?"
"Go ahead." Harrison smiled.
Abigail’s voice crackled through. "Evelyn, where are you? The department needs to send you something—just need your location."
Evelyn gave the address without suspicion. Just a work errand. No big deal.
She had no idea what was coming.
