Chapter 484

The weekend had arrived. As Evelyn prepared to leave, the twins clung to her, begging to tag along.

Concern for her grandfather left no room for negotiation. With no time to console them, she had no choice but to take Alexander and Isabella with her.

Their car pulled into the parking lot near Centercourt Plaza. Strapped in her car seat, Isabella suddenly whimpered, "Mommy, my tummy hurts. I need the bathroom..."

She'd ignored Evelyn's warnings last night and eaten too much honeydew melon.

Seeing her daughter's pained expression, Evelyn instructed Sebastian to park. She left him with Alexander while taking Isabella to the mall restroom.

Ten minutes later, they emerged.

Hand in hand, they waited at the crosswalk, oblivious to the danger lurking nearby.

Lillian Prescott sat in an unmarked vehicle, her dark eyes fixed on the woman holding Isabella's hand.

It was definitely Evelyn.

After months of Dominic hiding her away, here she was - exposed in public.

To Lillian, Evelyn would always be trash. An orphan with a dead father, imprisoned stepmother, and burdensome grandfather. Yet this nobody had stolen what rightfully belonged to her.

Every memory of Dominic doting on Evelyn made Lillian's blood boil.

The simmering rage had become unbearable. She'd plotted endlessly to drive Evelyn from the city.

Now, discovering Evelyn's pregnancy, Lillian needed her gone immediately.

The child clinging to Evelyn's hand was Isabella - Dominic's precious daughter.

Dressed in matching outfits, their identical eyes left no doubt about their relationship. The resemblance was uncanny.

Lillian's hands clenched the steering wheel.

Though media reports claimed Evelyn was the twins' biological mother, Lillian had refused to believe it.

But seeing them together forced the bitter truth upon her.

Now Evelyn carried another of Dominic's children. The injustice fueled Lillian's hatred. Who was this gutter rat to bear his heirs?

She would marry Dominic and have his legitimate children. Evelyn's bastard would never compete with hers for affection or inheritance!

As the traffic light changed, Lillian made a call.

A single "Understood" answered before she hung up.

She snapped the SIM card and tossed it away.

Evelyn chatted with Isabella as they crossed, unaware of the black sedan with fake plates tailing them.

The car followed steadily as they left the crowded streets for a quieter alley.

The private parking lot lay just ahead. Engrossed in conversation, neither noticed their stalker.

Halfway down the alley, the sedan suddenly accelerated.

Few pedestrians shared the space. One screamed as the car barreled toward Evelyn.

The shriek pierced the air.

Evelyn turned - just in time to see death approaching.

Instinct took over. With no time to save herself, she shoved Isabella to safety.

The impact sent Evelyn flying like a broken doll. She skidded across pavement, arms instinctively cradling her belly.

But crimson already stained the cobblestones.

"Mommy!"

Isabella's terrified wails filled the air. The child knelt beside her mother, tiny hands hovering helplessly over the spreading blood.

Bystanders gathered quickly.

"Madam! Alexander!"

Sebastian and Alexander came running at the commotion.

Good Samaritans rushed to help while others called for aid.

The hit-and-run driver wore a hat pulled low. Seeing Evelyn's motionless form, he smirked before speeding away.

Alexander memorized every detail of the fleeing vehicle. Rage transformed the usually cheerful boy's features.

Sebastian dialed emergency services with shaking hands. When he moved to lift Evelyn, Alexander stopped him. "Don't touch her! I'm calling Dad."

Though his voice remained steady, sweat beaded on the child's forehead.

Kneeling beside his mother, Alexander's small hands trembled as he explained the situation to Dominic.

He knew it was bad. His teacher had warned never to move accident victims with unknown injuries.

Terror gripped him - the fear of loss overwhelming for one so young.

But he couldn't lose her.

Alexander clenched his fists, his normally bright eyes now mirroring Dominic's icy determination.

The ambulance arrived swiftly.

Dominic, mid-billion-dollar negotiation, abandoned everything when Alexander called. The news of Evelyn's accident turned his world upside down.
