Chapter 161
Dominic was heading back to his bedroom when he spotted Evelyn stepping out with a blanket and pillow clutched to her chest.
Their eyes met for a brief second before Evelyn quickly averted her gaze, fingers tightening around the fabric.
Dominic's brow furrowed as he studied her in silence.
"I'll take the couch," Evelyn murmured after a tense moment.
She moved to brush past him, but Dominic snatched the bedding from her arms before she could.
Evelyn blinked up at him in surprise.
Without a word, Dominic turned on his heel. The dark silk of his robe clung to his broad shoulders as he strode away, his posture rigid with irritation. He carelessly tossed the pillow onto the sofa before yanking the blanket into place with rough movements.
Evelyn's fingers twitched at her sides. The haphazard arrangement made her skin crawl - she had to physically restrain herself from fixing it.
Instead, she turned toward Isabella's room.
The nursery door creaked softly as Evelyn pushed it open, allowing just enough light to filter in without disturbing the sleeping child.
Seeing Isabella's peaceful expression, Evelyn exhaled in relief. She gently tucked the little girl's arm back under the covers before quietly retreating.
Next, she checked on Alexander.
Her son slept sprawled across his bed in stark contrast to his sister's neat posture. Evelyn pressed a feather-light kiss to his forehead, marveling at how his sleeping position mirrored Dominic's in the other room.
The resemblance was uncanny. Genetics truly were remarkable.
