Chapter 383
Dominic's brows furrowed at the thought of Evelyn appearing on screen for other men to ogle. The mere idea made his blood boil. "That won't be necessary, Mr. Richter. She's not cut out for show business."
But Joseph Richter persisted. "The young lady has star quality! I could make her an international sensation with just one film!"
Dominic knew the director's reputation was solid. No one in Hollywood had launched more careers than Joseph Richter.
Yet the thought of Evelyn navigating that cutthroat world made his stomach churn. "Ms. Sinclair's passion lies in architecture. She dreams of becoming a renowned designer, not a celebrity."
"Design and acting aren't mutually exclusive," Joseph countered. "She could prioritize films while dabbling in design projects. Many artists successfully balance multiple careers."
When Dominic remained unmoved, Joseph turned directly to Evelyn. "What do you think, Ms. Sinclair? Would you consider a career in entertainment?"
Evelyn offered a polite but firm smile. "I appreciate the generous offer, Mr. Richter, but my heart belongs to design."
Joseph sighed in disappointment, shaking his head. The advertising manager gaped at Evelyn's casual rejection. Most would kill for this opportunity!
Before leaving, Joseph pressed his card into Evelyn's hand. "If you ever change your mind, my door is always open."
"Thank you." Evelyn accepted the card graciously.
Dominic's stony expression made his stance clear - he'd never allow his woman to enter that den of vipers. Evelyn belonged to him alone. No other man deserved to admire her beauty.
"I should finish my presentation," Evelyn suddenly remembered. "May I return to my office?"
Dominic gently tapped her nose. "Don't overwork yourself. We're going home together tonight."
That simple word - "home" - sent warmth flooding through Evelyn's chest. When had she become so integral to Dominic's life? Sharing these mundane routines with him felt unexpectedly precious.
After Evelyn left, Dominic's gaze landed on Lillian Prescott. The actress's usually vibrant face looked pale, her smile strained with barely concealed envy.
She'd expected to star in the Queen perfume commercial - a golden opportunity to network with Joseph Richter while getting closer to Dominic. Instead, Evelyn had stolen both men's attention.
Lillian had never felt so thoroughly defeated.
"Ms. Prescott, I apologize for today's incident," Dominic said smoothly, lighting a cigarette. The flame flickered between his elegant fingers. "Our company will pay triple the termination fee. The fault lies entirely with us - Mr. Richter was simply doing his job exceptionally well. Does this arrangement suit you?"
Lillian studied his handsome features. Though seething inside, she maintained a gracious smile. "Of course, Mr. Blackwood. I wasn't at my best today anyway. I'll reflect on my shortcomings and hope for another collaboration."
Joseph offered some encouragement. "You have striking beauty, Ms. Prescott, but your expressions currently limit you to innocent roles. With more training, I'm sure you'll blossom into a versatile actress."
Lillian's smile turned brittle. If not for this meddling director, she'd still be the perfume model! But she swallowed her resentment. "Thank you for the advice, Mr. Richter. I'll work diligently to improve."
After exchanging pleasantries with Dominic, Joseph departed.
Lillian seized her chance. "Mr. Blackwood!"
Dominic paused, exhaling smoke. "Yes?"
"My birthday is next week. Would you attend my party?" Her voice held desperate hope.
"I avoid social gatherings," Dominic replied coolly. "Crowds and loud celebrations aren't to my taste. But I'll ensure you receive a gift."
Lillian stood frozen as he walked away. Despite the heated room, icy dread crawled up her spine.
"Mr. Blackwood, I..." Her voice cracked.
Dominic turned, one eyebrow raised.
Lillian drank in his aristocratic features - that perfect blend of elegance, power, and untouchable aloofness. He stood mere feet away, yet felt galaxies apart.
No matter how hard she tried, this man remained perpetually out of reach.
But Lillian Prescott didn't earn her reputation by giving up easily. This wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
