Chapter 238

The sleek black Bentley pulled up in front of the corporate tower exactly forty minutes later.

Dominic Blackwood stepped out, his polished leather shoes clicking against the pavement. Clutched in his hand was the DNA test report.

No employee would dare block the CEO's path—except one.

Seraphina Prescott stood arguing with the receptionists in the lobby. "My friend isn't some criminal! What harm could we possibly do on the top floor? There are cameras everywhere. Can't we just look around for ten minutes?"

The receptionists exchanged glances. They'd dealt with enough social climbers to recognize one when they saw her.

Seraphina just wanted to flaunt her nonexistent privileges.

The top floor was Dominic's private domain. No one entered without explicit permission.

"Ms. Prescott, you're welcome to show your friend your own department or the common areas," one receptionist replied politely.

Seraphina's face flushed with anger. She slammed her palm on the marble counter. "Are you robots? Is that the only line you know? Use some common sense!"

The receptionists maintained their professional smiles, though their eyes betrayed their contempt.

Seraphina caught their disdain and sneered. "Just wait. I'll have Brother Dominic fire both of you tomorrow!"

There was only one Dominic in the company. She expected them to cower at the name.

They didn't.

Instead, their faces lit up as they bowed toward the entrance. "Good afternoon, Mr. Blackwood."

Seraphina whirled around. Dominic strode through the revolving doors, his presence commanding silence.

Ignoring his icy aura, she rushed toward him with a simper. "Brother Dominic, they—"

The receptionists paled.

Their senior had warned them about T Corporation's strict hierarchy. Under Dominic, rules applied to everyone—including himself.

If Seraphina truly had personal ties to the CEO...

Dominic didn't let her near. He blocked her with the DNA report and asked coolly, "Why is she still employed here?"

The question was directed at Sebastian Whitmore.

Though Dominic's tone was calm, Sebastian recognized the danger. He knew exactly how much his boss despised Seraphina—especially today, with Robert Sinclair's passing.

She was digging her own grave.

"I'll handle it immediately." Sebastian stepped forward, his expression stern as he motioned for Seraphina to follow.

Her complaints died in her throat.

The receptionists exhaled in relief.

Dominic's stormy expression signaled this wasn't the day to test his patience. Seraphina had chosen the worst possible moment.

"'Why is she still employed?' What does that mean?" she wondered frantically. "Where else would I be during work hours?"

Sebastian sighed. "Ms. Prescott, please gather your belongings."

Her face twisted. "You're firing me? On what grounds?"

He didn't bother responding.

Nearby employees entering the elevator exchanged glances. This girl never learns. First the expedition disaster, now this.

They'd all shuddered at Dominic's earlier severity.

Upstairs, the board meeting began.

Sebastian knew it would run late. Dominic would push through the agenda to focus on Robert's affairs.

Had Robert lived, he would've been Dominic's father-in-law.

Meanwhile, police arrived in the lobby to arrest Seraphina for conspiracy to kidnap a colleague's grandfather.

She sobbed denials, while her department head frantically called upstairs.

Sebastian ignored the calls.

This was her own doing. Had she not repeatedly crossed lines and provoked Dominic, she wouldn't face prison at nineteen.

Time crawled until 4:30 PM.

Sebastian checked his watch, then left to fetch Alexander and Isabella from school.

They arrived at the office by five.

The meeting doors didn't open until seven.

By then, both children were fast asleep.
