Chapter 363
The middle-aged doctor had worked extensively with Preston Worthington Jr. from the Worthington family. His nerves were steeled by now.
Otherwise, the sheer intensity radiating from Dominic Blackwood would have shattered him.
Dominic carefully rolled up Evelyn Sinclair’s sleeve, revealing skin so flawless it rivaled fresh snow.
The doctor’s breath hitched.
In his career, he’d treated countless noblewomen with impeccable complexions. But the woman before him eclipsed them all.
Her skin was so delicate it could rival an infant’s. Translucent, luminous—enough to blind someone unprepared.
"Are you trying to lose your eyes?" Dominic’s icy voice snapped the doctor back to reality.
Meeting those murderous eyes, the doctor immediately lowered his gaze.
Men of power were possessive. It was a universal truth, especially among the elite. The doctor understood that all too well.
His hands trembled slightly as he prepared the syringe.
"Shake one more time, and I’ll ensure you never practice medicine again." Dominic’s threat was a blade against the doctor’s throat.
The doctor swallowed hard, steadying himself with a deep breath.
"Must you be so harsh?"
Evelyn’s lashes fluttered as she tugged Dominic’s sleeve, silently pleading for mercy.
Dominic’s glare softened marginally.
The doctor exhaled in relief.
With precision, he administered the injection.
Next came the disinfectant and gauze. "Miss Sinclair, your neck wounds need immediate treatment. Delaying risks scarring."
Evelyn nodded obediently.
The sting of antiseptic burned. It was agony—sharp, relentless.
She clenched her teeth, refusing to whimper. The doctor was already under enough pressure.
But pain betrayed her. A tiny gasp escaped.
Dominic’s expression darkened like a gathering storm.
"Be gentler," he growled through gritted teeth.
The doctor wanted to protest—he was being as gentle as humanly possible. But facing Dominic’s wrath was like standing before a raging inferno.
Preston Worthington Sr. rolled his eyes. "Dominic, disinfectant stings. That’s basic science. Unless you want scars marring her neck?"
His usually sharp-witted brother had devolved into an overprotective fool.
"This happened on your property. You owe me answers, Preston." Dominic’s glare was lethal.
Preston raised his hands. "I’ll get to the bottom of this. My apologies, Evelyn."
His instincts screamed foul play. No cat turned rabid without cause.
Someone had orchestrated this.
And Preston would make them regret it.
"Test that cat immediately," he ordered, nodding at the limp Persian cradled by Scarlett Fairchild.
Tears streamed down Scarlett’s face. "Mr. Worthington, I take full responsibility. Punish me, fine me—but please, save her. She’s… she’s everything to me."
James Kensington unexpectedly intervened. "Preston, it’s just a cat. Must you torment the girl? Save it if you can."
Preston arched a brow.
James defending a woman? Unprecedented.
His gaze flicked to Scarlett.
Ah. Now it made sense.
With a smirk, Preston relented. "Fine. For James’ sake, I’ll try."
Scarlett’s gratitude shone through her tears.
Elsewhere…
Lillian Prescott handed her assistant a thick envelope.
"100,000 dollars. A bonus for your loyalty."
The assistant’s eyes gleamed. "Thank you, Ms. Prescott!"
Back in the VIP lounge…
As the doctor finished bandaging Evelyn’s neck, Alexander and Isabella Blackwood approached hesitantly.
"Mommy…"
Their identical faces were streaked with tears.
Alexander, ever the little man, fought back sobs. His brown eyes shimmered with unshed tears.
Isabella burst into loud wails. "Mommy, I’m sorry! If I hadn’t chased the kitty, you wouldn’t be hurt! I’ll never play with cats again!"
Evelyn’s heart shattered.
She pulled Isabella close, wiping her tears. "Sweetheart, it wasn’t your fault. The kitty was sick. Don’t hate all cats because of this, okay?"
Isabella sniffled. "But what if another kitty hurts you?"
Evelyn kissed her cheek. "It won’t happen. This was just an accident."
The doctor returned with test results. "Mr. Worthington, the cat was injected with a madness-inducing pathogen. Within ten minutes, it amplifies aggression tenfold."
