Chapter 208

"Stop. You're drunk."

Evelyn finally gathered the courage to meet his gaze, but her timid eyes were instantly overwhelmed by Dominic's commanding presence. She was clearly outmatched.

She needed to defuse the situation. Compromise was acceptable, as long as he didn't become aggressive.

The last thing she wanted was to wake the children or have her colleagues overhear anything suspicious. They might assume she was having an affair...

Dominic remained fully clothed. As their bodies pressed together, she could feel the cold metal of his belt buckle digging into her abdomen.

His overwhelming presence was impossible to ignore.

"Can't you say something sweet?" The man had worked all day and consumed too much alcohol. Exhaustion lined his features as he adjusted her pajama bottoms and ensured her top covered her lower back against the chill.

Now that he seemed calmer, Evelyn decided silence was safest...

She began counting sheep, hoping the intoxicated Dominic would fall asleep quickly.

At seventy-eight, he suddenly pulled her closer, eyes still closed. "I told you to say something nice. Are you ignoring me?"

Evelyn had nearly drifted off when his rough, resonant voice startled her awake. Blinking sleepily, she took in his sharp nose, furrowed brows, and angular features.

He clearly wouldn't sleep without hearing "something nice." "I...I don't know what you mean by that..." Evelyn had never seen this side of Dominic.

This drunken man craving sweet nothings was the complete opposite of her usual aloof boss.

Still, she considered herself privileged. Without their unique relationship, she'd never have witnessed this domestic side of him.

Dominic's eyes remained shut as his muscular arms pulled her tighter.

"Don't..." Her protest was cut off when his lips captured hers.

The small room fell silent except for Alexander kicking off his blanket, the thump of his foot hitting the floor startlingly loud...

Evelyn tried pushing away the man devouring her mouth. "Mmm," his tongue invaded, exploring every corner, teasing and sucking until their mouths moved as one.

The wet sounds of their kiss made Evelyn's cheeks burn.

She could feel Dominic's growing arousal and panicked as he neared his limit...

'The children are right here...'

She couldn't let this continue, no matter what.

The drunk man might have forgotten his children slept mere feet away...

"Miss Evelyn..."

Isabella rolled over, tiny hands clutching Evelyn's pajama top.

The child remained asleep, likely dreaming of their sleepover arrangement with her brother and Miss Evelyn.

Dominic's breathing grew ragged as he struggled to stay quiet. When his eyes snapped open, they burned with barely restrained desire. Continuing would crush Isabella's small hands.

"Get off! If you won't leave...rest here awhile. I'll wake you later..." Evelyn panted.

She lay sprawled on the floor, pajama top partially undone, chest heaving - a tempting sight.

Isabella had nearly turned completely in her sleep. On the floor, there was no risk of falling, so Evelyn didn't reposition her.

Shifting slightly, Evelyn realized Isabella had snuggled into her chest, arms wrapped around her.

She kissed the girl's cheek tenderly, relieved the child had unwittingly become her shield.

Meanwhile, Dominic lay flat on his back. Never had he slept in worse conditions as the bulge in his pants slowly subsided.

Only the remnants of intimacy and soft breathing remained in the quiet room.

Morning arrived with Isabella giggling and playing with Evelyn's earlobes.

Blinking awake, Evelyn was greeted by her daughter's angelic face.

She pulled the girl close for a morning kiss, then suddenly remembered last night and turned. Only traces of Dominic remained.

"What's wrong, Miss Evelyn?" Isabella pouted, kneading Evelyn's hair.

Hearing only her daughter's voice, Evelyn relaxed. He must have left before anyone woke.

She was grateful for his discretion.

After washing up, she took the children downstairs for breakfast.

"Oh? The boss's kids are still here?" a colleague asked.

Evelyn shrugged. "I'm not sure. It's Sunday, but they have school tomorrow." "That means the boss will return. Who else would take them back to A City? You're so lucky, Evelyn. The boss's cousin must be wonderful. If the boss ever looked at me, I'd be smiling in my sleep! Then we'd be relatives too!"

Evelyn offered an awkward smile.

Meanwhile, Julian scrolled on his laptop. "The boss never makes mistakes in judgment. Don't get your hopes up!"

The woman was about to retort when Julian suddenly froze, eyes widening at breaking news. He turned to stare at Evelyn...
