Chapter 263

Dominic finally came home late that night.

As he pushed open the bedroom door, the peaceful sight of Evelyn sleeping with their twins greeted him.

Both children were snugly tucked beneath the covers.

Evelyn wore a silk nightgown, her ivory limbs peeking out from the blanket. Her cheeks looked irresistibly soft...

Dominic couldn't resist pinching those cheeks, waking her instantly.

Evelyn blinked sleepily, her eyes resembling a newborn deer's.

The sight of her innocent yet seductive appearance made Dominic's stomach tighten.

"You're back." Evelyn rubbed her eyes.

Dominic pulled her into an embrace, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I'll shower. Go back to sleep."

He tucked the blanket around her like a child. "You're grown but still kick off covers. What if you get sick?"

Evelyn opened her mouth to speak, but he silenced her with another kiss before disappearing into the bathroom.

She stared after him, conflicted.

In her palm lay a single brown hair she'd plucked from his shoulder during their hug.

Had he noticed?

The strand taunted her - straight and black her hair was, but this was curly and brown.

Clearly not hers.

'Vivienne Laurent's?'

Dominic emerged minutes later, efficient as always.

A towel hung low on his hips, nothing else.

Evelyn couldn't look away.

The man was perfection - wealthy, devastatingly handsome, with a sculpted physique that drove women wild.

Not an ounce of fat, just lean muscle that rippled with each movement.

Those powerful legs carried him across the room barefoot, water still glistening in his hair.

No wonder women threw themselves at him...

To Dominic, Evelyn was equally mesmerizing.

Makeup-free in her pajamas, she possessed a unique allure.

"Dry my hair for me." He could've done it himself but wanted her touch.

Dominic's hair felt soft between her fingers.

The twins had inherited his texture.

Though winter chilled outside, the heater dried his hair quickly.

Dominic noticed Evelyn's unusual behavior. "What's wrong?" he asked, frowning.

Even expression-challenged Dominic could read her mood.

Their eyes met, easing some tension.

Evelyn turned away, restless.

'Dinner with Vivienne took hours. No explanation?'

Perhaps innocent, but how would he explain the hair?

When she remained silent, Dominic scooped her up, turned off the light, and pulled her close.

Evelyn lay awake all night, doubts creeping in...

Next morning, Dominic had already left. The twins still slept.

His scent on the sheets proved he'd been there.

A note on the nightstand caught her eye:

"Business trip to Western Europe. Sorry to miss breakfast with you and the kids. Will return ASAP. Love you."

The words soothed her slightly.

She must keep faith.

At breakfast, Evelyn set the table with the children's favorites.

She stared at her untouched plate.

"Mommy, eat with us!" Isabella tugged her arm, concerned.

Evelyn mechanically spooned oatmeal into her mouth.

Alexander and Isabella exchanged worried glances.

After breakfast, Sebastian arrived to drive the twins to school.

Today he came in a Porsche. The children climbed in with their backpacks.

Evelyn, not ready for work, asked to ride along.

As she opened the car door, Isabella gasped. "Mommy! My English textbook - did I leave it in Daddy's Bentley? It's green. I need it today!"

Ever the forgetful child. Evelyn sighed and went to search.

Dominic owned multiple cars.

The Bentley referred to yesterday's ride with Vivienne.

Sebastian handed her the key.

No book in front. Between back seats, she found it.

As she turned to leave, something black beneath the seat caught her eye.

Curious, she reached...

Her heart stopped.

A pair of women's lace panties.

Evelyn trembled, face draining of color as she stared at the intimate garment.

If Vivienne's hair on his shoulder raised questions...

How would he explain this?

Panties didn't just appear in cars without reason.
