Chapter 437
Evelyn marched straight to the CEO's office, determined to confront Dominic about his sudden change of heart regarding the Vivi Group deal.
Just before the meeting, he'd assured her they would sign the agreement.
The scene that greeted her at his office door shattered her composure completely.
Evelyn tried to swallow the lump forming in her throat. It burned like acid, making her eyes water.
She'd fallen for Dominic the moment they first met.
After graduating from a prestigious international design school, Evelyn had returned home with multiple job offers from top corporations.
Yet she chose the nearly bankrupt Crawford Industries solely because Dominic was its general manager. She'd recognized his potential immediately.
True to her instincts, Dominic turned the company around spectacularly. He expanded the business, wrested control from his family, and rebranded it as T Corporation.
With each interaction, Evelyn fell deeper under his spell.
Her love grew like a flower trapped in perpetual twilight - unable to bloom yet refusing to wither.
Though Dominic remained oblivious to her feelings, Evelyn counted herself fortunate he never indulged in scandalous affairs with socialites or celebrities.
His impeccable reputation satisfied her. She believed persistence would eventually make him notice her.
After all, their values and worldviews aligned perfectly. No other woman could possibly suit him better.
Then six years ago, her world collapsed when Dominic appeared cradling twin babies, announcing he'd become a father.
The revelation struck like lightning.
Seeing those children tore Evelyn's heart to shreds.
When had this happened?
How had she missed any signs of his involvement with another woman?
Looking back, she recalled how distracted he'd become during their work discussions, often smiling absently. At the time, she'd attributed it to a personality shift.
Now she understood - Dominic had been in love.
Evelyn hired private investigators, but every lead went cold. Whenever she subtly probed about the twins' mother, Dominic expertly deflected.
His growing impatience forced her to drop the subject.
Years passed without any sign of her supposed "rival."
Dominic remained unchanged except for the two adorable children by his side. His routines stayed consistent, and Evelyn continued waiting.
Unrequited love bred an inferiority complex she couldn't shake.
Fear of rejection paralyzed her. The potential damage to their professional relationship terrified her more than perpetual longing.
Now witnessing Dominic's intimate embrace with another woman, tears threatened to spill. Normally unshakable, Evelyn found herself drowning in a toxic cocktail of agony, jealousy, and despair. Her usually composed face paled.
She turned silently and walked away.
Her posture remained rigid, though her beautiful eyes turned glacial...
Inside the office, the passionate couple remained oblivious to Evelyn's presence at the door.
When Dominic finally released Evelyn Sinclair, her flushed face and swollen lips made his heart swell with tenderness.
One kiss wasn't enough. He stole another quick peck. "Head back to design first. I've got a board meeting about Vivi Group potentially withdrawing from our collaboration. Those old fossils will need pacifying."
Evelyn Sinclair nodded, cheeks still burning. "Understood."
Returning to the design department, she found employees chatting instead of working, anticipating their recall to the conference hall.
Olivia and Abigail were engrossed in playing Flappy Bird when Evelyn tapped Olivia's shoulder.
Startled, Olivia tapped her screen - sending her bird to an untimely demise.
"Evie!" Olivia whined, turning. "I was about to hit 400 points!"
Abigail smirked, waving her phone. "Pathetic. I'm past 1000 already!"
Putting her phone away, Abigail pulled Evelyn close and whispered, "When I went to the restroom earlier, I saw Ms. Laurent exiting the CEO's private elevator looking absolutely devastated. You didn't have words, did you?"
"Vivienne was at Dominic's office?" Evelyn frowned. "I didn't see her."
Abigail leaned closer, eyes gleaming with gossip. "Between us, Vivienne's been in love with the boss for years. Watch your back - she's ruthless. You know why Dominic's never had a girlfriend all these years? It's not just his disinterest - Vivienne systematically eliminates any woman who shows him attention."
As a longtime T Corporation employee, Abigail had heard all the rumors. Little escaped her notice.
Olivia eavesdropped, eyes widening. "Ms. Laurent likes the boss? But she always keeps her distance!"
"That's exactly her strategy," Abigail scoffed. "Men want what they can't have. The more elusive, the more desirable."
Noticing Evelyn's discomfort, Abigail quickly added, "Not that our boss is that shallow. He only has eyes for you. But still, be careful with Vivienne - who knows what she's capable of."
