Chapter 369

The taxi screeched to a halt outside the Worthington Medical Center.

Evelyn tossed the driver a crumpled twenty-dollar bill, not waiting for change as she bolted from the cab.

The sterile hospital air stung her nostrils.

There, curled into a fragile ball on the stark white sheets, lay Olivia.

Evelyn's breath caught. Her throat tightened like a vice.

"Olivia..." The name barely escaped her lips.

Tear-filled eyes met hers.

Evelyn reached to embrace her friend but recoiled when Olivia gasped in pain.

Lifting the hospital gown revealed layers of bloodstained bandages wrapping Olivia's abdomen.

Evelyn's vision blurred with rage. "Who did this?" Her hands shook violently. "Give me a name. I'll have them arrested!"

Olivia clung to her, sobs wracking her thin frame. "No police... please..."

Though Evelyn didn't fully grasp the Worthington family's reach, Olivia knew their power all too well.

Evelyn's jaw clenched. "Tell me. Now."

The unspoken truth hung between them - the baby was gone.

"Preston Worthington Jr." Olivia whispered the name like a curse. "Don't confront him, Evelyn. They'll destroy you."

Ice flooded Evelyn's veins.

Preston Worthington Jr.? The younger brother of Dominic's business associate?

Dominic's elegant sophistication seemed worlds apart from this monster.

Evelyn forced herself to stay calm until Olivia drifted into fitful sleep.

Then she stormed into Maxwell Lockwood's corporate headquarters.

When the receptionist announced Evelyn's unexpected arrival, Maxwell canceled an important board meeting without hesitation.

The polished businessman before her bore no resemblance to the predator she knew.

Images of Olivia's broken body flashed behind Evelyn's eyes.

Her palm connected with Maxwell's cheek with a resounding crack.

The entire lobby froze.

Maxwell merely touched his reddening cheek, lips curling. "Did that hurt your hand? Feel free to try again."

Evelyn seized his collar. "You ruined an innocent life! Olivia had nothing to do with us!"

White-hot fury burned through her.

Olivia's quiet suffering. The child ripped away. All because of this man's selfishness.

Maxwell's smirk faltered under her glare. For the first time, he saw the consequences of his actions reflected in Evelyn's eyes.
