Chapter 431
Late night.
Evelyn Sinclair was in the final trimester of her pregnancy, her movements restricted by the growing life inside her. That's why she left the gathering early.
Abigail Thornton and Olivia Kensington also felt exhausted and bid their farewells. With most women gone, only men remained in the private karaoke room.
After exchanging superficial goodbyes, the men continued their revelry.
Alistair Montgomery wanted to escape the dull atmosphere. Feigning drunkenness, he claimed he needed to go home and rest. No one stopped him.
The remaining colleagues had their own agendas.
Once the female coworkers departed, the usually serious male executives summoned the club manager. Several attractive escorts joined them, and the party continued...
Inside, the room buzzed with energy. Outside Blue Honors, the biting winter wind cut through the air.
Fortunately, Evelyn, Abigail, and Olivia wore thick down jackets and scarves, shielding them from the cold.
"Should I see you home, Abigail?" Evelyn asked, eyeing her colleague's prominent belly.
Though only five months pregnant, Abigail's stomach suggested twins.
Abigail laughed heartily, patting her belly. "No need. My ride's arriving any minute. You two should get home and rest. Did you call cabs?"
Olivia linked arms with Abigail. "Evelyn texted Mr. Blackwood half an hour ago. His car should be here any moment. As for you, traveling alone at night while pregnant isn't safe. I'll stay over tonight and we'll go to work together tomorrow."
Gratitude filled Abigail's eyes. "Thank you, Olivia."
Before pregnancy, she wouldn't have hesitated to travel alone at night. Now, she couldn't risk her baby's safety.
Olivia smiled. "What are friends for—"
A car horn interrupted them.
A white Mercedes pulled up nearby.
Beyond it, partially hidden around the corner, a sleek black Rolls-Royce waited like a shadowy predator.
Abigail recognized their CEO's vehicle immediately. Waving to the Mercedes, she called, "Over here!"
As the car approached, Abigail turned to Evelyn. "Our ride's here. Mr. Blackwood's waiting around the corner. Get home safely. Tomorrow will be busy."
Evelyn waved. "Rest well, both of you."
Once they departed, Evelyn spotted the familiar Rolls-Royce.
Dominic Blackwood emerged from the vehicle. Evelyn dashed into his arms like an excited sparrow.
Alistair witnessed this intimate reunion from Blue Honors' entrance.
Her swift, graceful movements captivated him.
Suddenly, harsh headlights blinded him, forcing him to squint.
Coming from wealth, luxury cars didn't impress him. Yet seeing this extravagant vehicle waiting for Evelyn unsettled him.
He watched as Evelyn melted into a tall man's embrace. The stranger cradled her waist tenderly, rubbing warmth into her cheeks.
Though shadows obscured the man's face, his commanding presence radiated both elegance and latent danger.
'Is that Evelyn's lover? His aura is... formidable.'
Though he knew eavesdropping was improper, curiosity propelled him forward. Concealing himself behind a nearby sycamore, he strained to hear their conversation.
Dominic's rich, cello-like voice carried through the cold air. "My reckless little bird, must you always dash about? What if you'd fallen?"
Alistair couldn't hear Evelyn's response, but saw her playfully punch Dominic's chest. The man chuckled, capturing her wandering hands before claiming her lips in a deep kiss...
Jealousy burned through Alistair.
After finally finding a woman who stirred his heart in this foreign land, she belonged to another. The injustice!
Furious, he slammed his fist against the tree trunk.
Instantly, Dominic's piercing gaze snapped toward him!
Alistair barely ducked behind the tree in time. 'How perceptive!'
Dominic stared intently at the quivering sycamore. Had someone been there?
A strong gust shook the branches violently. Perhaps it had just been the wind?
